a sneak peek at a new large plush narwhal...i love the way my new label looks sew in!
today in sewing stars land...this picture is a sampling of what is going on... i was very excited to finally wake up to a real new england morning filled with snow! i am also quite happy with my order of woven labels from luckylabel.com that i just picked up at the post office. now i am off to sew the day away...it is all like a wonderful dream!
well, since i was asked, yes! i am taking part in the medical experiments plush show in north carolina.i am still working on my entry, but here is a sneak peek:
he still needs a jacket, and his pants are too big at the moment. i also plan on doing more top stitching in brown all over, so he looks more frankenstein like. i am happiest with the neck bolts at the moment. i guess i could make something weirder, but i like making cute things...so cute it is!
well, the studio clean out has taken much longer than i had hoped. i have soooo much stuff! and this time i really purged as i cleaned, which is why it took so long. now my studio is once again a happy sunny place to work in, and when i am done ironing and organizing my fabrics into the plastic drawers i will be ready to create once again!
i have a giant cardboard box filled to the brim with all sorts of fabrics that will be going up for sale next week in special yard sale section on my website. here is a sneak peek of the cotton calicos that will be for sale super discounted:
i also have tons of fashion fabrics, and faux fur fabrics that will be for sale too along with some supplies i will never use, like envelopes, and glitter. it feels good to purge, and i hope that i can find new homes for all this stuff so it will finally get used!
finishing this studio clean up couldn't have been better timed, because it is now official. i am totally insane, and have three big shows happening consecutively!
on the west coast you can find me at the 24th annual Teddy Bear Convention in Nevada City, California April 13-14-15. on the east coast a week & a half later you can find me at the New England Spring Teddy Show in New Hampshire April 28. then a week after that i will be at the RISD alumni art sale in Providence, RI on May 5.
yikes! i better get to work!!
well, i don't have anything new to share, so i thought i would share the gems of my stuffed animal collection. i was that little girl everyone knew that had so many stuffed animals on the bed it was a wonder i had room for myself. and through the years some of those have become very special.
the one above is 'ed'. when i was a freshman in college i was being forced to make art by doing projects. i wanted to do something that i could just relax and do. i was lucky enough to get to go on a trip to a fabric store where i picked up the mint green fur & terrycloth. he is completely hand sewn and has beads for eyes.
on the left is my lamb, which was waiting for me, apparently, when i got home from the hospital. i have had her all of my life. i have had do a little repair on her here and there, but she has held up really well. the one on the right is 'daisy'. she is a sock bunny that my mother made me. she used to go everywhere with me, and still has a spaghetti stain on her butt from a night out to dinner...
this is 'angie'. she was made by erica. you can't see in the picture, but she has insect-like wings! she is really awesome, and a rare creation from erica, so i really value her.
there you go, a walk down my stuffed animal memory lane. and believe me, that is only the tip of the ice berg!
i am sorry i have been an absentee blogger of late. i have been mired in wholesale orders, working part-time and then i found out i got into a second teddy bear in new hampshire only a week after i get back from the california show. things are needless to say, crazy!
these little bears i have had since the fall, but i never finished them. so i have been doing some detail work on them and measuring them for outfits over the last few nights just a couple hours before bed. that is about all the time i can even spare right now...hopefully once a few things are off my plate i can not only blog a little more but share what i have been doing!
have a great thursday everyone!
the other evening to unwind a bit i decided to dabble in embroidery. i have tried before, but the stitch i tried was 'backstitch' and it always looked messy, i would get frustrated and give up. i picked up a really great embroidery book with awesome directions, and decided to try the 'stem stitch', and it was more like hand appliqué, and i was able to make the lines i always wanted to make! then i started trying other stitches in the book to to embellish the squirrel including the 'couching' of the yarn on the tail. it was a really fun & calming thing to do just before bed.
i have also been gearing up make a million bears...well okay maybe not a million, but my goal is 20. i am doing a teddy bear show in nevada city, california in april, and since it is a 3 day show & my first teddy show ever i want to be sure to be stocked up! last night i started dying batches of mohair again. i have ideas for different themed bears already. i can't wait to dive into my mohair and start! but right now it is drying in the shower...until then i am getting my birdie mobile kits put together. hopefully they will hit the shop this weekend. back to it!
