my little furry man.
yesterday i took my little guy to the vet after starting to worry about his excessive drinking and then puking. they did blood work on him, and my vet called me this morning to let me know everything seemed fine. the only number that worried her was the one related to his kidneys. i guess because he is an older gentleman, his kidneys are no longer working as well as they are suppose to. i just got back from picking up some samples of special foods for his kidneys. he has always been a dry food lover, but i need to try & get him to eat the wet stuff instead... right now he is curled up under the blanket napping the afternoon away, and i keep bugging him...so he is going to be fine.
this whole thing sort of took the wind out of my sails for the last day or so, though. i am going to be working really hard over the weekend to get more stuff made for the shop, which means green tea cups, regular tea cups, and finally the return of the sasquatches & yetis. so be sure to check in monday!

awwww. Just have to delurk to say he's so cute! Glad to hear he's ok : )

I'll de-lurk for this one.
I lost both my cats to kidney disease- it's pretty much a part of aging in older cats, due to a long history of selective breeding in human hands. Anyway, I tell you this not to depress you (one survived over five years after diagnosis, so don't worry), but because I have most of a case of wet kidney diet and about half a small bag of dry kidney diet still, and have been looking for someone who needs them (after all, it's not cheap stuff- I'm on a college budget and gods know it took a bite out of me). I don't know what it costs to ship a case of cat food, but I'm sure it's cheaper than buying another case and it will just go to waste with me.
As I understand it, the major reason for getting them to eat wet food over dry is because they really have to stay hydrated to reduce strain on the kidney. My cats didn't like the kd wet food AT ALL, but I noticed when I got them a fountain to drink out of as versus a bowl, they drank a lot more. Just a thought.
Come to think of it, I still have that lying around too. I miss my kitties. :(

I'll say a prayer and send some healing energy to your little furry guy. I have 3 elderly companions here- a 16 year old cat, and two elderly little dogs who sleep more than anything else. It is so hard when they get old, but such a Blessing to have them in our lives so long...
