high ho, high ho, its off to work i go!

Thebook01i am still here... i just have my head down, buried in drawing, writing, sewing, and prepping for the first craft show of the spring for me, the RISD Alumni sale. so there might be a lack of posting over the next couple of weeks, but as i get closer to the show i will post pics of what i have made...

well, back to working...

yes, girlie. now, make a wish, and take a bite.

Appleskit1_2
apples, delicious & cute. okay, maybe not delicious...but certainly cute. these are actual apple sized, and testers of a pattern i will be putting together in a kit so anyone can try their hand making an apple, plus learn how to use a wedge pattern to make a rounded shape.

w.i.p. birdie mobile kits

well, tuesday is when the episode of uncommon threads airs...and diy put up the description already with some pictures from the show...

so i spent this evening making up some more kits in an alternative color-way that is more intense than pastels to also add to the shop.

you can see the tv's eerie glow as i worked to package up the new kits.

the weekend is too short. tomorrow i am back at accounts payable at the hospital i am temping at. i certainly got spoiled by my summer of freedom to craft the days away! i can't wait until i can craft in the daylight hours again. i spent most of today running around doing errands which leaves my crafting to the evening hours. i am not complaining, though, i know i am pretty lucky!  :D

my tuesday night in the ol' studio:

first thing i do to get the stamps attached to the blocks is to stamp the block with the image, then seal it with some gloss medium.

then i cut apart my pre-made rubber stamp blocks, and use a super heavy duty craft glue to stick them to the matching wooden blocks. once i have done that i attach my printed package label to the box, and give the stamps 24 hours to totally set before putting them in the boxes.

i know many of you are going to ask, 'where did you get those rubber stamp blocks made?'. i used a small company called picturemystamp.com, which i liked working with a lot.

alright...end of w.i.p. tuesday night. time for relaxing then some sleeping...for tomorrow brings me back to pushing papers across a desk.

from morning to night...

a work in progress post (a.k.a. wip) as per request...so as much as i like that i can have a month or two at a time spending my days sewing or crafting away, i also like being able to afford health insurance, so i temp in various office jobs here and there. right now i am temping in accounts payable at a local hospital. this makes my weekend days even more precious, and has also cut down my 'creative' time for making new items. today i concentrated on a batch of squid...this is how my sunday went, from morning to night:

Wipsquids01
cutting out squid parts.

Wipsquids02
tracing the tentacles over & over & over...

Wipsquids03
cutting out the tentacles, heads, and more. then piling them up.

Wipsquids04
taking a break to decorate the kitty with my scraps.

Wipsquids05
setting up the eyes, cutting & trimming sewn parts.

Wipsquids07
pinning the tentacles & bottom to the heads.

Wipsquids08
as the end of the 'ice road truckers' marathon came to a close, i also decided to turn it in...

there are no pictures of my turning pieces inside out because i did that during a craftland meeting this evening. if you hadn't heard yet, the craftland application is only up for 2 more weeks, best to get it in soon! it is a great opportunity to take part in a craft show without dragging out the tables and tents to a locale. all you do is make your stuff, and ship it off to our little temporary shop set up in downtown providence! okay...mini-plug over...

and i will try and at least post some more work in progress pics as the week goes along.
