Incoming Cyber-Monday update... Next week!

All right. I have been sewing, again. Wounds seem to be healing up, somewhat. I will be posting some things I have been sewing to my etsy shop in one week. Here is a preview/teaser:

Broken hearts shatter easily.

"I doubt that you will read (let alone respond to) this message, but I will give it a final try anyway. Years ago, I have send you a message asking whether it was possible to buy one of the plush tea cups from you, since I, unfortunately, always missed the moments on which you sold them. Unfortunately, you never replied. Nevertheless, I would still, after all those years, like to purchase one of those tea cups from you. From what I understood from your post, (I presume) you will never create new plushies again, but I was wondering if you made a few plush tea cups for this Union Handmade show that you would be willing to sell? Please reply via e-mail, if you would like to respond. Thank you in advance."

Dear N.B.,

You have no idea how many people have asked me for a tea cup. So many that I couldn't have possibly replied to everyone that asked. I also have not been using my "teresa at sewing stars dot com" email in ages now.

That said, I would have emailed you but there is no email available in your note. :(

...

Dear everyone else who commented,

Wow. I mean, WOW. <_< I am so surprised by your lovely and heartwarming comments! I guess I am still suffering from a broken heart when it comes to Sewing Stars. If this were an ex-boyfriend, all my pictures would be locked away in a box. Instead, I just hide away and all my plushies are stowed away in a container in the closet.

I am working on making the booklet of all my most popular patterns and will self publish in order to keep costs down. I also have about 50 copies of the first booklet and 100 or so of the second one in my studio closet as well. When the time comes, all three will be made available for purchase. I will take preorders as you all suggested. That time will most likely be around September, since I am rewriting and polishing the patterns from the rejected book deal to use in the last booklet as well as adding some other patterns I have never done directions for before.

I wish things had been different for me... But they are what they are. I will give what's left in me for a last Sewing Stars hurrah, though.

Visions from being Delusional

IMG_3310

I took part in the Union Handmade show that was run by the people of Bazaar Bizarre Boston. I hardly sold anything. It was a testing of waters for me... and apparently it's gotten ice cold since I last took a dip.

Sewing Stars

Sewing Stars

$40 was too much for a squid, when in the past I have often sold both a squid and whale for $80 to people so excited to get them. I am not even upset about my bust of a show. More resigned to the fact that Sewing Stars might truly have reached its end.

One last thing I may end up doing is designing a final booklet that I'd have done in a short run with all the patterns to things I sold over the years: kitties, owls, squids, whales, tea cups, etc.If time permits, that maybe what I will end up doing... A farewell booklet to the few of you who might want the patterns to make yourselves. I figure if I no longer have the love I once did for making them, I may as well pass it on to others who would find joy in it. In the end, I still want my creations or even their patterns to bring smiles to people's faces...

Glimmer...

Thank you for the lovely comments I received on my last post... It's been a long couple of years of more downs than ups, but I am feeling better these days. I do spend most of my time at my day job designing, and I squeezed in designing a couple of fabrics...

They are available for purchase through the Spoonflower website if anyone is interested.

I think the healing will still take some time as I figure out which direction to head in. I finally finished my move to the house we are now renting. In the move I unearthed old patterns and plushies from so long ago. And wow, my sewing skills really changed over the years... At the moment, I think I would like to write out proper directions and create another booklet and some more kits to possibly reopen the shop with. We'll see... I am still in the 'thinking about it' stages.

Here are some pics of the new place, though:

It's a cute little house that is Chris' grandmother's. She is unable to live by herself and now in a care center. Moving my life after living in the same cramped place for 6 years was crazy. I am hoping to get my studio all spurced up with a nice orange rug and some big pillows for the floor so I can chill out and read manga or watch tv. My last studio was all about work, work, work... I want this space to feel more like a space I like spending time in.

I will try and be sure to continue posting as I am able... Thank you again, everyone who still reads. <333

That I save up in a jar of money...

Hm. Yeah. Sewing Stars is pretty much on permanent hiatus. Sewing burn out, life disappointments, and then a general shift in interests has led me here.

After 6 years in my current little apartment in Providence, I am moving a town away into a small house with the boyfriend and kitty. The first room to pack up is my studio. I have been working my way through my belongings, remembering the joy and pain sewing has brought me. All of my fabric is now stowed away for a 'someday' when the pain part is finally gone from my heart.

On the bright side, the house we are moving to is the house my boyfriend's father and uncle grew up in. His grandmother has gotten too frail to remain living there alone, and they have moved her to a nice place where she is around people all the time. We have cracked open cans of paint and wood polisher, packed up knick-knacks and much more as we prepare for another shift in our lives.

To all the people who have bought or loved my creations, thank you.

Maybe someday I'll figure out where I belong...

shop update and other updates, too!

Etsy-update-may

Owls added to the webshop today along with sets of quahogs!

Sc_quahog01

I drew the pattern for the shells in pencil, scanned it in, colored them in photoshop and printed out on a high thread count cotton fabric. And for anyone not in the know, quahogs are hardshell clams. Rhode Islanders call them 'quahogs', and the little ones are referred to as 'little necks'. I live in a quirky little state!

I also have a new pattern/kit I am hoping to add to the shop next week, and the popular booklets will also make their way into the etsy shop as well. I have been pretty busy lately and working a regular old job has been robbing me of extra energy I used to use on all this. I hope someday to get a better handle on balancing all this...

More to come soon! <3

Sewing Stars 2.0 is a go!

etsy-screenshot

The etsy shop is loaded up with one-of-a-kind samples, many of which were intended for the book. In the coming weeks, kits based off the patterns from the book will be made available including the popular UFO playset.

I will also be posting the April Sewing Stars exclusive next week. So keep checking back! And thank you everyone for the wonderful and kind comments. It really does mean the world to me that even after a year of struggling with things, that you all are still around for me.

(((((A ton of hugs to all of you))))

Eep! Next week!!

Sneak-peek1

Next week I should have the site going back up in it's new incarnation. I am thinking by Friday at the latest but possibly sooner.

For the reopening I will be selling off one of a kind samples from the book that never happened. There are no doubles of anything I will be posting. The week after, I will post up the April monthly exclusive. I asked over on Facebook and Twitter what people would like for the monthly exclusive to be; owls or kitties... It seems that owls are the overall winner, but if i have time a couple kitties might also show up in the shop as well.

So see you next week at the rebirth of Sewing Stars!

♥
